Description	Colestilan (MCI-196), a non-absorbable, non-calcium-based phosphate binder and anion exchange resin, exhibits oral activity and is utilized in the study of hypercholesterolemia [1] [2].
In vitro	Colestilan (MCI-196) reduces cholesterol levels through bile acid adsorption within the gastrointestinal tract [2].
In vivo	Colestilan (MCI-196) at doses of 0.125 or 0.5 g per 15 g of feed, administered orally for 14 days, reduces serum phosphate levels and urinary phosphorus excretion in rats [3]. Additionally, it mitigates hyperphosphatemia in rats with adenine-induced renal failure over a 4-week period [1].
