According to the Human Protein Atlas, it is predicted to localize to the membrane, and recent data suggests interaction with DYNLL1 (Dynein Light Chain LC8-Type 1), implying a role in intracellular transport mechanisms. Emerging studies indicate that FAM171A2 may act as a neuronal receptor involved in the endocytosis of pathological α-synuclein fibrils.
