Bioactive Lipid Compound Library

Catalog No. L7000

Bioactive lipids have been shown to provide health benefits either through modification of tissue fatty acid composition or induction of cell signaling pathways, due to their pivotal role in immune regulation, inflammation, and maintenance of tissue homeostasis. While some health benefits are derived from consumption of short to medium-chain fatty acids, evidence suggests that the polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) are the most important bioactive lipids. PUFAs are found mostly in plant seed oils and are important substrates for the biosynthesis of cellular hormones (eicosanoids) and other signaling compounds that modulate human health. The beneficial health effects of PUFAs seem to be dependent on their isomer configuration as the cis-isomer is the predominant bioactive form which enhances membrane fluidity when incorporated into cells. Increased membrane fluidity enhances cell to cell communication and helps maintain normal homeostasis or prevent the development of metabolic disorders. The TargetMol's Bioactive Lipid Inhibitor Library, a unique collection of 385 bioactive lipids related compounds, can be used for research in bioactive lipids, and high throughput screening (HTS) and high content screening (HCS).
