Marine Natural Product Library

The ocean is a complex open system involving physical, chemical, biological, and geological processes on a huge spatial and temporal scale, covering about 71% of the Earth's area. Marine organisms survive and evolve under special environments such as high osmosis, low temperature, or low light for a long time. Such complex environments enable them to have different genomes and metabolic mechanisms from terrestrial organisms, producing a series of marine natural products with diverse structures, unique activities, and great application potential. Marine natural products are essential for developing marine drugs, biological products, food, and other functional products.

Marine microorganisms, plants, and animals are the three main sources of marine natural products. The natural active substances isolated from them include terpenoids, alkaloids, sterols, polysaccharides, peptides, and other structures, many of which have a wide range of pharmacological activities such as anti-inflammatory, anti-viral, anti-tumor, anti-cardiovascular diseases, etc. They are the abundant material basis for the discovery of lead compounds and the development of new drugs. According to statistics, the average success rate of marine drug development is approximately 1.7 to 3.3 times higher than that of the pharmaceutical industry R&D. Since 2004, six marine drugs have been approved worldwide with a value of tens of billions of dollars.

TargeMol carefully collected 148 monomers of marine natural products, which has great potential in the field of new drug development, and pharmacological research. Contact us now for more information!
