Insulin-like growth factor-binding protein 1 (IGFBP1) is encoded by 259 amino acid (aa) with 25 aa residue signal peptide that is processed to generate the 234 aa residue mature protein. IGF-binding proteins prolong the half-life of the IGFs and have been shown to either inhibit or stimulate the growth promoting effects of the IGFs on cell culture.
