Research Background
CDC25 phosphatases are key cell cycle regulators and represent very attractive but challenging targets for anticancer drug discovery. CDC25B may be used as a potential prognostic marker in the pathogenesis of retinoblastoma. In mitosis, Kiz is a new substrate of CDC25B whose dephosphorylation following CDC25B stabilization leads to the formation of multipolar spindles. Furthermore, endogenous Kiz and CDC25B interact only in mitosis, suggesting that Kiz phosphorylation depends on a balance between CDC25B and Plk1 activities. The abnormal expression of CDC25B phosphatases detected in a number of tumors implies that their dysregulation is involved in malignant transformation. Both CDC25B and PED/PEA-15 play a certain role in the carcinogenesis of esophageal cancer, they will be the new diagnostic/therapeutic targets in esophageal carcinoma.
