Research Background | GOT2 (Glutamic-Oxaloacetic Transaminase 2) is a Protein Coding gene. 2 alternatively spliced human isoforms have been reported. The encoded protein is a mitochondrial enzyme that oxidizes glutamate to produce alpha-ketoglutarate for the Krebs cycle, eventually leading to the production of adenosine triphosphate (ATP). GOT2 belongs to the class-I pyridoxal-phosphate-dependent aminotransferase family. GOT2-mediated ATP synthesis may be a pivotal mechanism underlying the protective effect of febuxostat against neurodegeneration in experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE). The high aberrant GOT2 expression is prognostic in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. GOT2 is broadly expressed in the heart, liver, and other tissues. Diseases associated with GOT2 include Epileptic Encephalopathy, Early Infantile, 82, and Acute Vascular Insufficiency Of Intestine. |
