Description	Methylnaltrexone iodide, a quaternary derivative of Naltrexone, is an orally active and selective antagonist of the mu-opioid receptor. It acts peripherally in the gastrointestinal tract to antagonize the receptor and exhibits limited permeability across the blood-brain barrier.
In vivo	At a dosage of 2.0 mg/kg, Methylnaltrexone iodide, when injected into morphine-induced male Albino Hartley strain guinea pigs, effectively returned the number of coughs to baseline levels without affecting nociception [2].
